Today
I have been thinking about the song “Who’s Behind the Door.” This is one of the
most profound songs ever written. It is one of the greatest pieces of musical
art ever created.
You can
play the song here:
This song is about spirituality. They ask some of the central questions man has been asking for millennia: Who is Out There? Who are the unseen spirits? What is the purpose of our lives?
Some
of my favorite lines:
“Looking
out to the stars, Think about what you are”
“They
watch us all, They’re only making sure that we don’t trip and fall”
“How
can we find out more? Who owns the keyless door?”
“Life
is a waiting room, I hope they don’t call me soon”
(I
think this is very poetic)
And
the final punch:
“How
much more do you really think you know – than flower does – about who’s behind
the door?”
Bam!
What a punch!
This is very profound…
The words are very profound in themselves. And if that isn’t enough, the music is incredible.
It starts acoustic, which makes you feel very introspective, searching. The song builds from there, with background synthesizers which give you a feeling of vast space and time. Totally brilliant.
Then
the ending! The music really penetrates my soul.
You can feel and hear the “explosive” sounds – all the lights coming in. I can just imagine him opening up a large door, behind which God and spirits are waiting. All that God is, all that which the spirits are – things which our human minds can’t fully comprehend. The lights, the energies, they are all coming in, very powerfully…as he opens up the door.

All that God is, all that which the spirits are – things which our human minds can’t fully comprehend. The lights, the energies, they are all coming in, very powerfully…as he opens up the door.
Yet while
this vast light and energy is coming at him, he says: “No I am not afraid. No I
am not afraid. Who is behind the door?”
He
is the ultimate seeker. He is willing to face whatever it is, because he has to
know “Who is behind the Door?”
The
song finally ends by slowing down, and becoming more acoustic again. To me this
brings a sense of Peace. It is as if facing all that light and energy is not a
scary thing – no we should not be afraid – because once you get through that,
once you understand what is behind the door, you can have simple and calming
peace.
All those feelings and images come to me every time I listen to the song.
FYI,
I don’t think this musical brilliance was “thought out” consciously. I think
these guys felt it. I believe the feelings and words came from their own souls,
plus they were inspired and guided by their own muses. And somehow, taken
altogether, this amazing musical masterpiece was created.
The
song still resonates with me. Perhaps more than ever. I have grown in my
spirituality in recent years. In addition, I have gotten various types of communication
from the spirit world in the last two years.
My
book on EM energies, with all the amazing insights is a classic example. And during
the weekend I did some amazing edits and drawings on one important chapter (why
EM pulsates, and why it pulsates forever). During this time, I felt I had a
muse looking over my shoulder.
Now
today this song came to me. Haven’t thought about it in a long time. And it amazes
me how profound the song still is – not just in comparison of years, but compared to my
personal spiritual journey.
I
also think they had a muse working with
them when they wrote this song. They must have had a muse that day, that week.
She must have been guiding them and looking over their shoulder, just as my
muses have guided me in my special creations.
