High Functioning Autism

I have Autism. High Functioning Autism, but it is Autism. I have struggled with it all of my life. Today I am going public, letting everyone know.

We with Autism have a lot to offer. We have high powered thinking in our minds, we can often visualize detailed objects, and some of us are intuitive with animals.

**Real event inserted here. As I was writing this…just after writing “intuitive with animals”…my puppy and kitty came running into the room, and my cat jumped into my lap for some love. Just shows the intuitive relationship my pets have with me.**

Yet Autism is still a liability. The general public is not ready to accept us - only because the way we interact with people is not considered the norm.

I have struggled with this my whole life. I have learned to become more integrated into the human world (and some of this will be told in an upcoming book). But it is still tough. And I am often not accepted as an equal.

I am starting to go public with my Autism. By doing so I hope to get people to understand me better. Educate them on the benefits of Autistic people. Educate them on the positive traits, our special abilities. We need the general public to embrace what Autistic people have to offer (aka Einstein).

I also want to have a short-hand way of explaining my natural talents and behaviors. And above all, I want to be included in all social events and job opportunities as an equal.

I have high functioning Autism. I have special gifts, and I see the world differently. But that does not make me a freak or a monster. I am a good person, I have a divine soul created by God. I deserve love, friendships, appreciation, and opportunities as much as anyone else.
