The Ethical Principles of Jesus

The Ethical Principles of Jesus

We can look at Jesus as a Teacher of Ethics, not as a religious leader, then learn from his teachings.

Jesus was a Teacher, a Philosopher. In particular, he was a Teacher of Ethical Principles.

Recently I was discussing the Ethical Principles of Jesus with a friend. We came up with a list. These Ethical Principles are summarized below:

1. Love is better than Hate.

2. Peace is better than War.

3. Joy is better than Anger.

4. Forgiveness is better than Revenge.

5. Kindness is better than Selfishness.

6. Sharing is better than Hoarding.

7. Allowing is better than Denying.

8. Honesty is better than Deceit.

9. Inclusiveness is better than Exclusiveness.

10. Growing your Soul is better than Growing your Gold.

How many of these Ethical Principles will you follow?

*A practical point: There are some exceptions. For example, sometimes war is a necessity for defense. Also, excluding people from an area is sometimes appropriate if the person has committed a crime, or does not belong to the organization. Righteous anger is acceptable, such as Jesus and the money changers in the temple.

However, these are still the Preferred Choices. These are the Go-To Ethical Principles. They are the Lifestyle Behaviors. Always seek these Ethical Principles, and live by these Ethical Principles, as much as you can.

My friend also discussed with me how these Principles are good for society. They are good for man-kind. Only when people adopt these Ethical Principles will people behave better toward each other, and society will be a better place.

We agreed that you do not need to believe in Jesus as religious person, or as son of God, to live by these Principles. You can become a “Christian” in terms of following the Ethical Principles of Jesus.

And this is something everyone should do.
